Candle Making Supplies – Everything you need to start making your own homemade candles

If you can make soap at home, making candles will be a breeze for you. Again, it should be easy to find the supplies you need close to home. Find beeswax or wax, Kemamide release powder, candle wick, a joint sponge, metal washer and wick stick, as well as your preferred coloring agent or fragrance oil. Have silicone spray, a candy thermometer and ice pick, and vegetable oil on hand. As for the equipment, you can use the kitchen stove, a bain-marie and a mold for candles.

Spray the candle mold with silicone spray. Break the was block into small pieces; the best idea is to put on safety glasses and use a hammer inside a box to prevent chips from flying out. Weigh the wax chips, to make sure you have a pound, then place the chips in the top half of a double boiler and fill the bottom half with water.

Be careful with the temperature of the wax! Most waxes have a flash point of about 400 degrees F, which means this is the temperature at which they can catch fire, but wax won’t get hotter than 200 degrees F in a double boiler. Add a tablespoon of non-stick powder and let the wax sit in a water bath for half an hour.

Prepare the silicone candle mold. Cut the wick, tie a slipknot, and use a needle to poke a hole in the gasket sponge. Insert the inconspicuous end of the wick into the metal grommet and slide it up to the slipknot; slide the gasket down so it rests against the washer. With the candle mold upside down, slide the unscored end of the wick into the wick hole, then pull until the gasket rests on the bottom of the mold. After flipping the mold right side up, slide the inconspicuous end of the wick into the hole in the wick rod. Place the wick bar on top of the mold and pull the wick taut.

Add scent to wax. Stir the wax to make sure the scent is evenly distributed throughout the wax. For the wax in the mold. As the surface of the wax shrinks, pour more wax, not to exceed the top of the first pour. Let the candle cool for eight hours.

Untie the slipknot and slide the washer and gasket off the wick. Remove the wick from the wick bar and slide the wick bar out of the mold. Gently pull on the wick to remove the candle from the mould. Cut the wick flush with the bottom of the candle and trim it at the top. But you kept the unused wax, you can use it again for your next candle!
