Nanny or babysitter?

If you have children and you don’t have family around but you want to go out to dinner quietly for adults only, what do you do? In most cases, you would hire a babysitter. This is usually a teenager from across the street or someone a trusted friend knows who will come to your house and watch your children for a few hours while you go out. This babysitter would be in charge of the children, make sure they eat dinner, possibly clean the dishes, and maybe put the children to bed at the agreed time after some stories or games have been played.

If you have children and you go to work every day but you don’t want to put them in daycare, what do you do? Usually this is when you hire a babysitter. Yes, you are tasked with babysitting like a babysitter, but a babysitter will do much, much more for you and your family.

The babysitter will be paid by the hour or a flat rate overnight and will be paid when you return home. A babysitter will have a salary given weekly or biweekly, for the work she does with her children, and since it is a real job rather than just a way to earn some money on a Saturday night.

A babysitter will take care of the children, prepare their meals and clean up afterwards, bathe them, play games, help with homework, take them to classes or sports, and be there for them for the duration of their shifts. A nanny can live in her own home or live with the family, but she will always have free time during the week, just like any other job.

You may think that having a babysitter is reserved for celebrities or royalty, but in fact many families employ one to make life easier for them. It makes parents happy to know that their children are well cared for and all their needs are met, and it employs someone who has been trained in early childhood development and loves working with children.

Getting a babysitter from time to time for your children is a great idea, but it should not be confused with a babysitter who does professional work and works hard to take care of your children.
