Acer Wi-Fi Chromebook – Pros and Cons

Acer Wi-Fi Chromebook is the first commercial model of Chromebook. According to Google and Acer, the Acer Wi-Fi Chromebook will sell for $ 349. If you plan to buy this or any Chromebook, it is very important that you understand that a Chromebook is not a complete replacement for your PC or Mac. If you use software such as Photoshop or GIMP, you will still need your PC or Mac.

Five months ago, Google gave free Chromebooks to people to try. Although the Chromebooks given to the testers weren’t Acer Wi-Fi Chromebooks, they looked a lot like this device. Some of the pros and cons pointed out by the test drivers are listed here.

Some of the main advantages of the Acer Wi-Fi Chromebook are:

1. It is very light and easy to carry.

2. Compared to other battery-powered laptops and computers, Acer Wi-Fi has a very long battery life.

3. The Chromebook starts up in 10 seconds.

4. If you like “Angry Birds”, then you would like to buy this Chromebook. They have added a web application that allows you to play Angry Birds.

5. There is an additional level of web security for users.

6. All files are linked to the cloud and there is no data on the device itself, so users do not have to worry about their files, in case they lose or damage their Chromebook.

7. Whenever you turn on your Chromebook, it will automatically update with the latest features.

8. HDMI output is a good effect for those who like to watch movies.

9. Supports streaming music from Amazon Cloud service, Pandora, etc.

Some of the disadvantages are:

1. A Chromebook can only run Chrome OS. It means that you cannot load Windows or Mac based programs. For many people who use Macs and PCs, this is a huge drawback as they would have to keep their Mac or PC even after purchasing a Chromebook.

2. Since the Acer Wi-Fi Chromebook is not a complete replacement for your old computer, the cost may seem a bit high.

3. The Chromebook does not have an optical drive, which means that it cannot play DVDs or CDs on it. The only alternative is to use the USB port or the SD card slot.

From a very objective point of view, the advantages of the Acer Wi-Fi Chromebook outweigh the disadvantages. The Chromebook may not be a substitute for your computer, but it’s a great substitute.
