HTC announced five phones at the Microsoft Windows Phone 7 launch event and HTC Surround is one of them. The phone is available from AT&T and features a unique slide-out speaker with Dolby Mobile and SRS sound enhancement. Let’s take a look at some of the key features of the cell phone,

Design:
The phone has a unique design and offers a stylish look. It measures 119.7 x 61.5 x 13mm and weighs 165 grams, which is quite heavy compared to some of the other smartphones on the market. The reason for the added weight is the large speakers that are hidden behind the screen and can slide to the left of the phone. A kickstand is also provided to rest the phone while watching movies, videos, or listening to music.

Display:
HTC 7 Surround offers a 3.8 inch capacitive touch screen that has a resolution of 480 X 800 pixels and supports up to 16 million colors. The display is clear and vibrant, but Samsung’s Super AMOLED touchscreens are much better. An accelerometer sensor is provided to switch the user interface to portrait or landscape mode automatically and a proximity sensor to automatically turn off the screen.

Processing speed and other features:
HTC 7 Surround supports quad band GSM 850/900/1800/1900 networks, triple band HSDPA 850/1900/2100 networks and supports global roaming. It is powered by a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8250 processor and is powered by Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 operating system. It also has 448MB RAM / 512MB ROM and a gigantic 16GB internal memory. However, it does not have a memory card slot.

Multimedia:
Multimedia functions are the USP of this phone. Users can listen to music and watch videos using MP3 / WAV / WMA / eAAC + music player and MP4 / WMV / H.264 / H.263 video player respectively. A 3.5mm audio jack is also provided on the top of the phone allowing you to connect your favorite headphones. Content streaming is also supported.

Applications:
Given that it runs on the Microsoft operating system, it is not surprising that the HTC Surround is preloaded with Microsoft applications. Microsoft’s Bing Maps allows you to track your location and view detailed maps of the entire world. For office work, MS Office application is provided. Other applications include digital compass, calculator, voice memo, calendar, organizer, Facebook and Twitter integration, and much more. AT&T-branded apps like AT&T Navigator, AT&T Radio, and AT&T U-verse Mobile are also part of the package.
