Imagine a little hamster spinning his wheel over and over again. Comic, right? You are currently following a very simple pattern as you go from site to site in search of that gold making strategy that will earn you thousands of gold in World of Warcraft. With every strategy you find that either earns you some gold or fails miserably, you simply run back faster and longer on the hamster wheel to continue your quest.

Stop. Run. Beginning. Learning.

There’s a phrase in the internet marketing world that also applies to surprise writers called “button marketing.” What button sellers do best is grab your attention by writing catchy headlines like “1500 gold per farming hour” or “Best gold tip in World of Warcraft,” and then play on your emotional reaction to get you to buy something. They want you to spin that hamster wheel and keep coming back for more of their advice, which only leaves you hungry for more and never satisfied. You are a thrill seeker looking for your next thrill.

I don’t want you spinning that hamster wheel any longer. I want you to go downstairs and stop running for a moment to do a handful of things:

Stop to catch your breath.

Take inventory of the characters you own, the profession-specific recipes you’ve acquired, the level of your characters, your connections with guildmates/friends, and anything else you can find in your account that could help you earn gold.

Start with one strategy at a time, but build on them. Multiple task. Don’t just make netherweave bags, but find additional sources of income for your gold crafting portfolio. Can you move to the glyphs? What about the belt buckles?

Develop systems for a daily routine and how you will approach the sale of each type of item on the auction house, as well as the purchase of materials to support these business efforts.
