Travel Security: Top 5 Security Products Every Traveler Needs

Are you a traveler who takes all the new comforts with him when traveling abroad? Or are you so afraid of being robbed or mugged that you don’t really enjoy the culture and your surroundings? Read the top 5 security products any traveler needs abroad.

1. Padlock or combination lock

Padlocks and combination locks are the most versatile security products when traveling abroad. You need to wear them from the time you walk out of your front door until the time you return again.

You can buy a set of 4 padlocks that all have the same key. This way, you don’t need to carry a whole set of keys with you just to get into your luggage! Or try a combination lock. There are no keys involved, but you need to remember the combination. Make sure the lock goes through the zippers on your luggage!

Either way, padlocks and combination locks are very useful for:

  • Lock your luggage while traveling on public transport or leave it in the hotel luggage room.
  • Lock the locker or storage box in your bedroom.
  • You can even use them to lock 2 or 3 pieces of luggage together. This makes them harder to pick up and steal.

2. Money Belt

An easy way to hide your money or credit cards when traveling is to wear a money belt. They come in a myriad of options, from neck pouches, waist bands, actual belts with zippered sections, and even leg straps. All of these are great ways to protect your belongings.

If you keep these money belts under your clothes, there’s virtually no way it’s going to get stolen. However, if you are constantly pulling money out of your money belt in a public place, it will be very obvious to any thief trying to mug you. We recommend that you still carry a wallet with a small amount of money and save your money belt for your cash, passport and credit cards.

3. Cable lock

Use a cable lock to lock pieces of luggage together in a luggage room, or tie your luggage around a seat while you sleep. They can be opened with a key or by combination. They are a great safety product to use if you use public transportation a lot.

We have used them to pass zippers and other locks to keep them together. On night trains, we put a bell on the wire so no one could touch our backpacks without us hearing them.

4. Mesh security products

Security mesh products are becoming very popular among tourists, especially people who have not traveled before. They will give you the peace of mind that your backpack cannot be cracked.

They are basically a tote bag, backpack, camera case or many other types of luggage with a metal mesh sewn into the lining of the bag and the strap. This will prevent any potential thief from cutting into your bag. However, it will not stop you from a snatch and run attack.

If you plan to buy mesh security products, make sure you buy one with the mesh sewn into the lining. Don’t buy a mesh that goes over your luggage. They are cumbersome and very complicated to connect and connect correctly.

5. TSA locks

What are TSA locks? I hear you ask. TSA stands for Transportation Security Administration, an agency of the US department of homeland security. A TSA lock is a special type of padlock or combination lock that can be opened by customs officials when entering the US.

If you do not use a TSA lock, there is a chance that customs officers will break your padlocks/combination locks. There is also the possibility that they can cut your luggage.

Above are the top 5 security products every traveler should use. This does not depend on the style of travel, the budget, the age or the destination of the trip. These items will keep your belongings safe!
