In my personal opinion, Altinkum is not the place where I would choose to buy a property in Turkey if I had an infinite sum of money in my bank account. I am selling a property in Altinkum, so why am I revealing my honest thoughts about it? Simply because there are so many more beautiful areas to choose from, depending on your preferences, but these come at a high price, and let’s be real, in these ‘credit crunch’ days, who wants to take out a mortgage or spend all their savings?

If you are looking for a cheap property in Turkey, Altinkum is affordable. Where else in Turkey or indeed anywhere in the Mediterranean could you get an apartment for £18,000? Perfect for holidays and with excellent rental opportunities, buying a property is not out of reach for many and will provide a great holiday home to visit at any time of the year.

Situated between the Izmir and Bodrum airports, Altinkum is easily accessible by air and ferry. This is an area that was favored by Turkish ‘city dwellers’ who lived in Izmir, Ankara or Istanbul for holiday homes which later became permanent residences for some.

The Altinkum property is efficiently apartments and maisonettes around the beach and town areas, however within 10 minutes of the main tourist area there are some fantastic villas that can be bought at a third of the price of something similar in Europe, and half the price of other resorts in Turkey so anyone looking for cheap property abroad can take advantage of what Altinkum has to offer at a very reasonable price.

Didim is a peninsula that surrounds Mugla: on the east coast, the beautiful bay of Akbuk, which offers excellent properties with stunning views, on the west, the Aegean Sea and Lake Bafa and the Menderes River on the north coast. This is a perfect resort for families with children with its quiet sandy beaches and water park, those looking for a lively nightlife, or to take advantage of a fantastic variety of bars and restaurants serving all kinds of international cuisine. The area is also famous for its ancient tours, such as the Temple of Apollo at Didyama and the vast Roman ruins at Ephesus.

Many Brits have taken advantage of cheap property in Altinkum, Turkey, for both holidays and permanent homes, and Turks and foreigners live happily side by side. It is so popular with the British that they have their own English newspaper ‘Altinkum Voices’.

For those who are interested in relocating and would rather be amongst the Turks rather than the Brits, a piece of advice: living amongst the locals is not always as great as it sounds, I have lived this way in both Spain and Turkey and being in an area with a large British population definitely has its benefits.

I’ve come across some real bargains in recent weeks as the season draws to a close, for example a 3-bedroom maisonette for £26,000, as well as special offers that could be due to a reduction in price, the latest remaining properties in a nearly sold-out development that can be sold cheaply, early release pricing on new developments, an extension in payment terms, free extras like appliances or furniture package, or a free viewing trip.

Altinkum, Turkey really has a lot to offer: great beaches, cheap property, and let’s face it, if so many foreigners have decided to make their permanent homes there, it can’t be that bad!
