A Review of the Diamondback Tactical SOF Assault Package

In this article, I have provided a detailed review of the Diamondback Tactical ® SOF Assault package with side flaps, to include package specifications as well as the methods used to test and review the performance and durability of the product.

Overall, I was very pleased with the performance, durability, functionality, and design of the package. As listed on the Diamondback Tactical website, this pack retails for $ 344.95 and is worth every penny in my opinion. I would go on to say that this package is worth its weight in gold. Let us now look at the reasons why I have come to this conclusion.

The specifications for the Diamondback Tactical SOF assault pack I received are as follows:

• Item number: BLPF81-F-RG

• Green Ranger

• PALS / MOLLE accessories inside and outside the package

• Dimensions: 20.5 “high x 13.75” wide x 10.25 “deep

• Large customizable main internal compartment

• Various compartments and outer bags

• Large YKK zippers with durable pull tabs

• Fastex ® buckles on all adjustable straps and compartments

• Inner hydration cuff and hydration tube ports

• DryLex ® padding on the shoulder straps and back of the pack for added comfort

As with all the Diamondback Tactical products I have used, this pack was very well built. The build quality of the package can be seen immediately after taking it out of the package.

Diamondback Tactical uses 1000 Denier material to make its products due to the durability it provides. The seams used on the package are tight and detailed to the point that I couldn’t find a single loose thread that I needed to trim. With the use of other high-quality materials and items such as YKK zippers, Fastex buckles, and DryLex padding, these ultimately lead to fully engineered gear.

In other packs I’ve used, the main compartment zipper stops before the bottom of the pack by about four to six inches, limiting accessibility and functionality. This is not the case with the DBT SOF Assault Pack. The main compartment zipper opens fully for ultimate access to the inside of the backpack, a very useful design.

Another extremely useful feature of the pack is the ability to customize it to your needs. The pack has a lot of MOLLE straps inside and out. This allows the user to add additional MOLLE bags and modify the package design for specific mission needs.

I would like to report any issues or areas of concern in this package, but after extensive and rigorous testing, I have yet to find a single thing to complain about. In producing a superior package for serious use, Diamondback Tactical obviously took valuable input from experienced real-life operators in the design and construction of this package.

As for my own tests, I started by putting all my necessary operating equipment in the package. I don’t usually pack heavy or overdo it, but in this case I wanted to see how much I could fit in the package. He had everything he could think of and still had room for more. However, the accessibility of the items was surprising due to the design of the package. Items were easy to retrieve and replace, especially with gloved hands.

Once full, I decided to take it on a field trip to test the comfort of the design. The use of DryLex on the shoulder straps and the back of the pack was amazing in reducing fatigue and improving comfort. Having a roomy design also helped in the positioning of the package. I can honestly say that this was the most comfortable package I have ever used.

I then used the pack for several days of sniper training. The package went through harsh conditions such as rough terrain, weather conditions, and generally rough use. He was beaten, dropped, scraped, seated, dragged, and pushed in many different positions over different types of terrain. This did not affect the performance or operation of the package in any way and, to my surprise, it left hardly any noticeable areas of use. That’s something I’ve always thought a lot about when using DBT products, the quality of the items is second to none.

After re-equipping and readjusting from sniper training, I used the pack for several days of combat and tactical training. This training included drills on the flat range, at CQB, and during vehicle operations. Unsurprisingly, the package performed above and beyond my expectations and was flawless.

The last test of the package was for general use on the farm and on campus. I was able to fill it with all my physical therapy equipment and college textbooks to use on campus, as well as use it for a short trip out of town as luggage. It was perfect. Although it was designed for combat and tactical use, it outperformed any area of use in a civilian application.

Having used many different packs of various types and manufacturers in my experience, I can honestly say that the Diamondback Tactical SOF Assault Pack outperforms them all. I highly recommend this pack to anyone who wants to safely carry their gear to and from anywhere, whether it’s in a harsh and un-permissive environment or across campus for the next class.
