America’s filler

The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), a branch of the Center for Disease Control (CDC), has determined that obesity among children and adolescents has reached epidemic proportions and approximately one in five is obese. Are you surprised? It shouldn’t be, considering the fact that you can walk into any public place like Kmart or Walmart and look at children. Unfortunately, if one or both parents are present, obesity can generally be seen to run in families. And by scanning the contents of your shopping cart, you will find out why. Most of its content is high-calorie, low-nutrition comfort food (junk food) that can be found cleverly displayed at the top of every aisle. Doesn’t it worry you to know that the only things that will survive the annihilation of the Earth’s surface will be plastic, cockroaches and Twinkies? Oh, I almost forgot … and Pop Tarts.

The most recent figures available put food stamp recipients at a whopping 44.2 million, an increase of 4.7 million from last year, and Medicaid enrollment exceeds 50 million. That means one in five Americans is now dependent on the Federal Government, and it’s growing! If you are an advocate for GREAT government, you can ignore these statistics. If not, worry, worry a lot! And remember: “If my people, who are called by my name, humble themselves, pray, and seek my face and turn from their evil ways, I will hear from heaven, I will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

What’s going on?

Many Americans who were once considered “middle to upper middle class” have lost their jobs, homes, self-respect, self-esteem, and now depend on the government to survive. This, in addition to the growing trend of broken marriages and divided families, has further exacerbated America’s moral decline. And the result is a growing attitude of “if it feels good and looks good, do it,” and a generation of “I deserve it.”

So tell me: if this is America’s growing dilemma, is it any wonder that one in three adults is overweight or obese and children follow suit? Are you surprised that these people have pleasant and / or comfort food in mind and not a healthy lifestyle? Obesity leads to serious health problems like diabetes, heart problems, and premature death. Now these same people depend on and cling to medicaid for their survival.

Depression can lead to overeating, obesity, and then more depression.

Is this a hopeless cycle? With wisdom, knowledge, and a solid method, any cycle can be broken.

The United States government is adept at giving alms to destitute citizens, when what they really need is a helping hand. When they get a welfare check, food stamps, and free health care, they’ll survive riding on the backs of business owners and employed taxpayers. But give them a job and they will have self-respect and self-worth as productive citizens of a free, growing, and prosperous country.

Productivity, self-reliance, and personal responsibility lead to prosperity. The result is the willingness to live longer and the desire to achieve it by adopting a healthier lifestyle for both themselves and their loved ones. What would happen to this country if 40 million unemployed people were given jobs and took personal responsibility for themselves and their families and no longer depended on the growing government? That is a rhetorical question since the answer is obvious.

My personal goal is to become an important part of that “help” to a depressed, disillusioned, desperate, overweight and obese segment of our beloved and fearful country. I don’t have an advanced college degree, but I believe in common sense and not common wisdom.

A wise farmer does not wait for the rain to plant his crops. He knows that if he plants them, the rain will come, both the first and the latter. So take heart if a financial misfortune has occurred; it’s only for one season and you will have to be busy preparing for the next season. So split up and prepare the hard and fallow ground for your current situation. Then take a step in faith and start planting seeds, having faith in the hope that the rains will come when you least expect it. Then a new harvest season will begin. Walking in faith requires not looking at your current situation, as it is neither real nor lasting; it will change and eventually disappear. Keep your heart trusting the one who designed and created you, knowing that he loves you, cares about you and wants the best.

My hope and prayer is that you glimpse the wonderful things God has in store for you and realize that He is your only true foundation, anchor, port in the storm, provider, protector, true peace and salvation.

If you find yourself described in this article, keep in mind that there is hope and deliverance on the horizon for you and your loved ones. Please start with those things that you have free will and control over, a “careless” attitude, indulgence, gluttony, apathy, anger, selfishness, or whatever else you wish to no longer be a part of your life. Just tell him to leave, do whatever it takes to make this happen, and stay with him until he leaves. The most important thing is to recognize God and ask Him to help you, confessing that you can do all things through Him, who gives you strength and ability.

If one of your challenges is leading an unhealthy lifestyle, having bad eating habits, an unhealthy diet, a problem of obesity or being overweight, I can share with you what I have learned in the last 40 years by drinking lots of pure water and clean (distilled) and fasting regularly. As a result, I have never needed medical attention or medication for the disease, not even a headache for over 40 years. And thank God for the wisdom and knowledge that he has given me in the area of natural health and healing. Give fasting and a healthy lifestyle a try; I promise you that it will change your life and that of those around you. Don’t be a statistic; rather, be an exception to the rule: one of the blessed!

Yours in Him, Douglas Hoover
