Black Pearl Leopard Gecko, a successful new breed of Leopard Gecko Morphs

If you are looking for the ultimate unique result of gecko breeding, The Black Pearl gecko seems to be the one for you. This is a very special breed that came about as a result of the hard work of Konrad Wlodarczyk and his friends, a leading leopard gecko breeder from Poland, Europe.

Konrad started his so-called Black Pearl Project quietly with some friends of his. The black gecko contrasts with the albino gecko, which has been one of the popular geckos for sale. Breeding an all black gecko seems to be quite a challenge. This is the typical trait of a true breeder, always looking to try and breed new morphs. If many breeders try to breed albinos, why not try breeding a black one? This was perhaps what Konrad had in mind.

Black leopard geckos are in fact the rare form that has been developed recently. It was in early 2008 when information about a successful breeding of black geckos spread among the community and leopard gecko enthusiasts. Despite his successful work, Konrad moved to Australia and handed over the rights to further develop this project to The Urban Gecko, a well-known gecko breeder in Canada, owned and managed by Craig and Lori Stewart.

Well, why are black geckos so special? Mainly, of course, its totally black color that has never been seen and imagined by leopard gecko lovers. When many of the newly bred offspring possess an increasingly lighter color combination, this goes in the opposite direction, creating a darker version of even an extremely dark gecko.

From its hatched egg, the baby gecko emerged an all-black color without any pattern. The mature black gecko appears as extremely black and silky skin. This hypermelanistic color brings a profound and mystifying beauty that has never been seen before. It is really an exclusive breed at the moment.

Most Black Pearl babies are born extremely black and become slightly lighter during maturation, which can be mistaken for a Mack Snow but differs from its blurry dark gray pattern. When they reach sexual maturity, their color may again change significantly to a velvety black color.

Another complete melanistic breed is the Midnight Blizzard and it was the only complete melanistic morph in the past. Its melanin pigments appear as a brown skin rather than a black color, unlike the Black Pearl with its extreme black color.

Since the introduction of the Black Pearl a few years ago, many breeders have attempted to breed dark melanistic geckos but have not achieved satisfactory results. The reason for the failure could be the absence of a gene that can produce melanistic pigments so dark that they should definitely be the trait of a real black leopard gecko. In such successful cases of single reproduction, knowledge and experience play a very important role.
