Exclusively festive food in festive seasons

In colorful India we have a wide variety of foods that people eat every day, different foods at different times. Starting from north to south, we find thousands of foods across the country. The most interesting are the dishes that are prepared in the festive season, it is celebrated almost every day.

The season of celebration is throughout the year in India;

Sankranti is a harvest festival, Jaggery special laddu, roasted sesame seed and roasted peanuts are mixed and blended in laddu’s.

Pongal is the South Indian version of Sankrati, the first rice of this season is prepared with jaggery and raisins.

GudiPadva/Ugadi (Hindu New Year) Crushed Neem leaves are consumed with Jaggery, it has a magical effect on the belly, taken in very small portion.

Holi Festival of Color, Special Karanji, a curved shaped Khoya (reduced powdered milk) and stuffed dried fruits in a wheat pigeon pocket and preparation of fried wheat pancakes in syrup and Malpua.

Baisakhi harvest season in Punjab Mustard Greens and Roti made from Cornmeal and special Punjabi Lassi made from Yoghurt, Buttermilk and Sugar.

Rakshabandhan A string relationship between brother and sister. In this festival, the sisters prepare sweets as per their brother’s choice, for example, Gulabjamun, a mixture of Khoya balls, fried in clarified butter and dipped in syrup.

Janmastami Lord Krishna’s birthday a special powder is prepared using dry ginger powder with powdered sugar and coriander powder which are mixed together and eaten, this has a curative effect on our digestive system, butter and rock sugar.

Ganeshchaturthi, a special offering to Lord Ganesha, is Modak, a mixture of dried fruits with sugar and coconut.

Onam in Kerala is the main harvest festival Aavial, Pachadi, Rassam, payasam are some major dishes.

Muharram Haleem is prepared by Muslims in India.

Dussehra, this is the festival of victory over evil. A wide variety of menus are being prepared all over India.

Diwali is famous for recipes like Laddu, gujiya, Namkeen pare, Chivda, Shakkar pare and hundreds of recipes in this festival.

Christmas, a special month of Christians and special Christmas cake and many more dishes are made in India.

The Indians wait all year to enjoy the festival and the delicious food prepared for this occasion. The food varies from state to state and from zone to zone, the most interesting thing is that the food that is offered to the God is usually sweet; Many sweets are consumed during this period, there are some scientific reasons behind the food being prepared during this festive season. The climatic conditions and the food consumed are a perfect mix to improve our health during the festive season. Some dishes are prepared once a year during the festive season, people eagerly wait for a whole year. It has a great effect on our appetite and digestive system as well. The entire arena is full of life and people are most excited during the festival, all castes and creeds enjoying each other’s company. It is the time when the heavenly powers descend upon you and you would not like to miss an opportunity.

Whether Hindu, Muslim or Christian, Sikh or Jain, everyone comes together to celebrate the festival and enjoy each other’s company.
