Kyrenia Holidays

Standing proudly on the Mediterranean coast of Northern Cyprus, the ancient port city of Kyrenia is probably best known for its two ancient monuments. The beautiful port and the magnificent castle that dominates it. But Kyrenia’s joys are not limited to its 6,000-year history as an inhabited place. There is much more to the city, as a day of strolling its pretty alleys and streets, browsing its myriad of shops and eating at one of its many restaurants will soon reveal.

In Kyrenia, the warmth of the wonderful Mediterranean climate is complemented by the warmth of the people. There is so much to do to keep you busy, yet the pace of life is relaxed and you soon find yourself getting back to the pace of life as it used to be. Many people choose Kyrenia as a base for a North Cyprus holiday, however many never leave the city, choosing instead to spend their days watching the world go by. If you want to stay in or near the city, the choice of hotels is also vast, with something for everyone!

Set on sprawling, manicured grounds, Acapulco Chipre (or Acapulco Spa Resort Hotel Kyrenia, as it’s formally known) is a substantial property with its own large beach, a different lodging option, three large pools, and enough on-site activities to keep you going. you are busy during a whole vacation. The place is designed to feel more like a village than a hotel and the staff are friendly and helpful. Located about twenty minutes drive from the city center of Kyrenia, this is an ideal place for both families and couples. Fancy a bit of luxury and indulgence? So how about the Hotel Malpas? Perched on the hillside overlooking Kyrenia and the glorious waters of the Mediterranean, Malpas would be hard to beat.

Or possibly something smaller and closer to the city? Two properties immediately come to mind. Both are family owned and operated, both have been in business for many years, and both are consistently highly rated by visitors. First, the Altinkaya Hotel Northern Cyprus, to give it its full name. About four miles from the city, this property has a selection of different rooms. Cleverly designed, the hotel is effectively separated into two, each part with its own pool, allowing it to maintain a small and friendly feel. Closer, on the outskirts of Kyrenia, is the Pia Bella hotel. Long famous for its friendly and attentive staff, it is also divided into two main buildings and again has two swimming pools. Above all, both hotels are famous for their excellent cuisine. You will certainly never go hungry here!

And for something even smaller and more private, look no further than Hideaway Cyprus. Superbly situated on the mountainside above Kyrenia, Hideaway has just a few cabins and apartments. The languid, relaxed atmosphere here is utterly captivating and it’s easy to just spend each day lounging poolside on the terrace. The food here is also famous for its quality.

Along the coast to the west, you will find Riverside Cyprus. Just one mile from the sea and with access to a private beach club, Riverside is a perfect location for families and couples alike. Although quite large, the bungalow and cottage accommodation is spread amongst eight acres of beautifully landscaped gardens. A paradise of flowers awaits you here, but there is also plenty to do, with three swimming pools and a selection of restaurants.

In fact, this really is only a handful. There are so many hotels in and around Kyrenia and the choice of size and style is mind boggling. From the smallest to the largest, from clean and basic to the height of five-star luxury, everything you can imagine can be found here. And it should also be mentioned that holidays in Kyrenia represent incredible value for money at the moment. The country is pegged to the Turkish lira and the exchange rates are incredibly favourable.

However, one thing is for sure. Wherever you choose to stay for a Kyrenia holiday, come and stay. You will treasure the memories forever.
